Frequently Asked Questions with Answers
How does the dog sledding work?
Dog sledding is offered to everyone, whether having tried it before or not.
Before the trip starts, everyone receives an introduction to driving techniques and trail rules.
There will always be someone from Heidal Husky leading at the front, who can assist along the trail should any problems arise.
What clothes, food and equipment are needed?
Winter: In winter it can get cold, so it is important to have good, warm clothes that can handle getting wet. Remember good mittens for a solid grip, as well as warm shoes! A buff, hat and sunglasses can also be useful.
On longer trips it is wise to bring something to eat; it will be agreed in advance whether time will be set aside for food during the trip or not. For overnight trips, a list of necessary clothing and equipment to bring will be sent out.
Summer: Good clothing suitable for the weather and temperature.
In summer, whether the trip can go ahead will also depend on the weather, based on the temperature, so that it is not too warm for the dogs.
How long does a trip last?
It varies a lot; trips range from about 30 minutes to full-day tours. From the winter season 26–27 there will also be overnight trips. Is any experience required?
No. Most people joining a trip do this for the first time. The aim is to offer this experience to everyone, regardless of previous experience.
Can children join?
Absolutely. Children can ride along with their parents or with the guides. As a general rule, the age limit is 14 years to drive their own dog team. For overnight trips, it must be agreed in advance whether children can participate.
